Karrie: [00:00:00] Welcome to Awakened and Alive After 40.
Dominique: If you're searching for inspiring and easy to apply Enneagram and Human Design content, then you've come to the right place. We're your hosts, Dominique
Karrie: and Karrie, two friends and coaches who are passionate about sharing our knowledge and insights on these two powerful self awareness systems to help you step outside the box and into a life that is true to who you really are.
Dominique: We're so grateful to have you here. Let's jump into today's episode. Hey friends, welcome to the Awakened and Alive podcast. If this is your first time, thank you so much for clicking on today's episode. Today, we want to have a little bit of a chat about movement and how oftentimes we think of movement and exercise being something that helps us look better [00:01:00] or just change ourselves somehow physically. That's all great, of course. We want to look good. We want to feel good with how we're looking on the outside as well as the inside. But we want to talk a little bit about how movement is so much more than just the physicality on the outside of our bodies, how it actually impacts us on the inside from an energetic level. Talking more specifically when it comes to Human Design, our aura and how we express our energy out into the world. So this is going to be a little bit different episode because we are going to be sharing more on the energetic aura that we all carry and hold. And then of course, Karrie is going to give us some wonderful insights on the Enneagram and how different Enneagram types can look at movement and benefit from it in different ways.
Karrie: Yeah, [00:02:00] this is I think a really important topic to talk about because in our society we've been a little bit brainwashed into looking at movement in this really one dimensional way that you have to exercise to maintain your physical fitness and for a lot of people that equates to looking good, like you said. How does my outside physical form look, and many people don't give any thought to how is this impacting me internally? How is this impacting me energetically? Because we are energetic beings, so our physical body is vibrating as all matter does. That energy, like Dominique said, impacts our aura, impacts how we are interacting with everything else in our world. So it's sort of a bigger issue than just, yeah, do I fit into my jeans?
Dominique: Right? Do I look good in the mirror? Like how big is my muscle looking? Yeah absolutely. And then [00:03:00] also as two females here, looking at it from a lens of how our hormones impact our energy level. And one of the big things is, and I brought this up at work the other day, ' 'cause I was, TMI here. I was on my cycle and I felt like crap. But our world is most created for the energetic levels and the consistent energy that men hold 24/7, and doesn't take into effect how a woman's energy fluctuates throughout the month. As I was at work, I'm like, okay, I'm just supposed to put out the same level of productivity that I do every single day on these days where I am struggling and I'm feeling burnt out because my body is not wanting to do this. So that was one thing that really came to my attention not too long ago was just, maybe was feeling a little bit bitter too, where I was like, this isn't fair. They don't take into consideration my hormones [00:04:00] this week. It's so much more than what we see on the outside, and that's the whole thing that we're talking about here is yeah, movement is great, but sometimes your body is not going to want the same movement either. Sometimes it's going to be gentle movement. Other times more vigorous and like really pushing and progressing yourself through activities. But it's really going to have a lot to do with where we're at within our energy and if we're feeling a little bit burnt out within our lives, if our hormones just aren't functioning optimally during a certain time of month, or if something else is going on, whether there's treatments that you might be receiving and it impacts your hormones. So there's so much involved. And when we look at this, like you said, Karrie, we are all energetic beings. One thing that I'm excited to share here today on this episode is specifically when we look at the lens of Human Design with your Time-Bender, which is the quantum language [00:05:00] of a Manifesting Generator and then your Alchemist, which is the quantum language for the Generator. So these two types known as Generators are energetic, high energy beings. So they require an outlet for their energy. And if we look at being a Projector, which you and I are Karrie, and that's known as the Orchestrator in the quantum language, it's actually the opposite. With Projectors, we do have energy, but we're borrowing it from the other beings around us, from the Generators. So we're working off of a little bit of our own energy and then a little bit of energy from others. So we don't want to be depleting our tank, because then we can only really refill our tank to about 50 percent if we're taking it down to zero, like the Generators would benefit from in order to be fully restful at night. So it's important for us to be a little bit more cautious with [00:06:00] how we're using our energy, a little bit more wise, putting it in the right places and focusing it in the right areas that are actually being productive for us. It's really interesting when we look at these different energy types and how movement and activity is so different for Projector for the Generators. Also when it comes to our physical bodies, if we're burning ourselves out as Projectors, then we're at greater risk for so many different physical manifestations compared to a lot of the other energy types. Of course, anybody can burn out. But it's just a fascinating way to look at the importance of movement and activity from that lens of how is it impacting our energetic levels.
Karrie: And I think you touched on so many important things, specifically how sleep can impact our energy and how we need to be really tuned in to how we best need to [00:07:00] wind down and sleep at night, which has to do with your energy type within Human Design. But also just this idea of energy, especially for certain types, can get really stuck in our bodies. And we need to move it through us in order to release it, or else it can cause all kinds of discomforts or dis ease, and we, to stay optimally healthy, physically, mentally, emotionally, we really need to be aware of this. And it's something I'm tuning into in myself a lot more recently just because I'm learning more about it. And I'm getting more in touch with what am I feeling physically, not what is my mind wanting to do or what is my mind thinking I should do. It's really helpful when you start to tune better into that aspect of your physical self.
Dominique: I love how you bring up the attention that you're bringing into your body to better [00:08:00] connect to what your energy is needing. Is it needing more expression? Is it needing more reserve? That also made me think about the nervous system, because when we experience, let's say anxiety. So anxiety and excitement, that's the same response in the body. But of course we're making a different story about it, and that changes the way we feel about it. But there's different levels of anxiety. Sometimes breath work does not work for a lot of people, and I found in myself that it wasn't enough activity, enough movement for me to push this anxious energy out of my system, out of my body. So I went into more movement through shaking. So you mentioned Karrie, like expressing this energy from our bodies so that it's not getting stuck and creating these different sensations. For me, anxiety was very much the thing, and I found that I had to tune into my body in order to notice [00:09:00] what level of energetic activity am I sensing right now. Is it going to be helped through breath work? So if it's a lower level, then yes. But at that higher level, when I felt like there was just so much ping, ping, ping around in my body that I didn't know what to do, shaking and movement is what helped me to expel this anxious energy that would bring me back to a neutral state. So I love that you brought that up, that awareness of what's happening in your body. What are those sensations?
Karrie: And we're speaking a lot about the body today, so of course that made me think of when I'm thinking through the lens of the Enneagram, the Centers of Intelligence, which we've talked about on the podcast before, but just as a reminder, that is the Head Center, the Heart Center, and the Body or sometimes called the Gut Center. These are three different groupings of three within the Enneagram framework. The three Head types are Types 5, 6, and 7. The Heart types are Types 2, 3, and 4, and then the [00:10:00] Body/Gut types are Types 8, 9, and 1. So Dominique and I are both gut types, or body types. This looks very different for each of the three body types, but in general, we do tend to be a little bit more in touch with our bodies. It comes a little bit more naturally for us. So, I just wanted to make note that if you are an Enneagram type that maybe is body last in your Centers of Intelligence stacking, meaning you neglect it a little bit more or you're not as in touch with what your body could be telling you or the messages that you receive from it, this whole idea might be a little bit foreign to you. There's someone out there not using their body center productively to listen to those messages that you could be receiving from it to help you get a little bit more in tune with your own energy levels and what your body needs in the moment. The body center is also within the Enneagram framework, where we look when we need to take action on something. If you're a person [00:11:00] who maybe finds it's difficult to initiate or take action on things, getting more physically in touch with your body through some kind of movement that you enjoy might be able to help you initiate a little bit more action.
Dominique: Ooh, I love that, 'cause right away you were talking about this and the Time-Bender, the Manifesting Generator, that jumps right at me where it's like, when they hit this level of frustration or anger because of feeling blocked in some way in their creativity or in just whatever they're working on at the moment, instead of just like getting stuck in your mind, moving your body, allowing that energy to circulate can bring so much clarity for this type. That mind body connection is so solid. It's not separate. It is one. If we find ourselves getting stuck in overthinking and over processing, that's where movement can be so [00:12:00] incredibly helpful and beneficial, especially like I mentioned for that Time-Bender, Manifesting Generator. They're multitasking beings. Like they have to be active in many different ways in order to use up their energy properly, so it's not getting stagnant and feeling stuck within their bodies. That also brings to my attention right now the Gate 34, which is the busiest gate in the chart. Again, we all have all of the chart, but if you have the Gate 34 highlighted in your chart, being active, incorporating plenty of movement, multitasking, all those things are going to be very, very helpful and beneficial for you. Again, I love how this connection always comes about between the Enneagram and Human Design.
Karrie: Hey there, friend. Have you signed up for the Awakened and Alive newsletter yet? If not, we want to invite you to get on the list so you don't miss out on the [00:13:00] exciting new offerings we have planned for 2024.
Dominique: By receiving the weekly newsletter, you'll be the first to hear when new episodes drop, along with updates on a very special project we've been working on for our amazing community.
Karrie: Just as you were speaking, we talk about my partner a lot because he is a Manifesting Generator. He's also a Type 8, which is a body type in the Enneagram system, and he, for years, was living out of alignment when he had more of a 9 to 5 desk job where he wasn't moving. He didn't know this about himself at the time, but I think he had a lot of stuck energy in his body during this phase of his life. And now he works a job that has a lot of physical movement. He also works the late afternoon, evening shift until close. He has all his creative time in the morning when he has all this energy that he can do exactly what he wants Then he goes to work does [00:14:00] this physical job where he can move stuff and he's lifting stuff and he's walking and he's on his feet the whole time, and he has never been happier in his work life
Dominique: That's awesome.
Karrie: And he comes home from work, and he has emptied that tank like Dominique was talking about. He sleeps great, and he's just living in such alignment now that it's really inspirational to see because he figured it out, like he figured out what his body needed.
Dominique: I think again, we're bringing this conversation to our listeners because we just want to encourage you to think of movement maybe a little bit differently than you might have in the past. I know for me, this is very different. When I first started studying energy and Quantum Human Design, it's a very different way for me to look at movement, and to think of how it impacts my internal system, my source, if you want to call it, of energy and how I see others being impacted. [00:15:00] And there's people in my life, Manifesting Generators, that I see not using their energy because their jobs are a little bit more stationary, and they struggle to deplete that energy at the end of the day. And I've had conversations with them and just listened to how they express the frustration of being able to fall asleep. Then, like you were saying, Karrie, with your partner, and I know a couple of other Manifesting Generators who use their energy up throughout the day, and sleep isn't necessarily as much of a problem for them. Or they find like, okay, I have realized that I need to go have a real strong workout, go for a run, whatever it might be at the very end of the day, if you do have a desk job. So finding ways to deplete your tank and kind of experimenting with it. If you are someone who's listening and you're a Generator type, and you're like, wait a minute, yeah, I definitely struggle to sleep, and maybe it might be because your job isn't as active as it could be, or [00:16:00] what is available to you. So how can you use up your energy at the end of the day before you go to sleep? How can you feel like you have depleted that tank? And it can be, of course, through numerous activities. But I think it's something that could be really helpful for all of us to experiment with, is looking at movement to improve our quality of life in so many other ways besides just how we're looking, but more of even like, how are we showing up for people? How are we sleeping at night? How are we feeling inside our bodies?
Karrie: And when we say movement, we're not just talking about exercise. Exercise is of course great movement if that's what your body is craving and wanting. And we encourage anyone to do the exercises that feel good to them, not what the trends are pointing people towards because all of our bodies are very different, and so they're going to require and crave different things. But also [00:17:00] Dominique mentioned shaking, that she shakes her arms and she stands up and shakes her legs and her whole body to help release some of that anxious energy she may be holding onto. Me, I really love like any kind of stretching. It doesn't have to be a formal yoga class, it can just be like a full body stretch when I first wake up or doing some kind of twist stretching always feels so good because with my work I do sit a lot and record podcasts and create content and stuff like that so moving my body in like a twisty or stretchy way has always felt really, really good for me. But this can also include like vocal things like singing or chanting or humming because that is another way to move energy throughout the body.
Dominique: That's something that I've really embraced as I felt a lot of stagnant energy within my throat from not sharing my voice or speaking up over the years. And so a lot of vocal work is something that I have incorporated and [00:18:00] found tremendous success in. We mentioned a little bit in the beginning about breath work and how I do use it, but it depends on the type of energy level I'm experiencing. But doing breath work gets that flow of energy moving through your body. So yes, like you mentioned, Karrie, we're not just talking about physical exercise like we would think of it and what I'm used to hearing and seeing, but gentle activities, breath work, singing, humming, stretching, go for a run, find out what works best for you. It's an experiment. Everything, at least for me, everything in life is an experiment to figure out what is going to work for you because you are like nobody else in this world, and that is a beautiful thing.
Karrie: Thank you for listening to this episode. Your support is so appreciated.
Dominique: If you'd like to have a question [00:19:00] answered about your Human Design or Enneagram type in a future episode, you can submit it through the link in the show notes. We'd love to hear from you.
