Karrie: [00:00:00] Welcome to Awakened and Alive After 40.
Dominique: If you're searching for inspiring and easy to apply Enneagram and Human Design content, then you've come to the right place. We're your hosts, Dominique
Karrie: and Karrie, two friends and coaches who are passionate about sharing our knowledge and insights on these two powerful self-awareness systems to help you step outside the box and into a life that is true to who you really are.
Dominique: We're so grateful to have you here. Let's jump into today's episode.
Dominique: Hello, and welcome back to the Awakened and Alive (After 40) podcast. Thank you so much for hitting play on this episode. If you did already hit play, you know that we are going to be talking about how manifestation really works, the mechanics of manifestation so that you can [00:01:00] create your best life, life of your dreams. I first want to start off by saying hang tight with us. I know that this word in particular has been thrown around a lot over the years and kind of a little overused at times as well. I was someone who used to roll my eyes and kind of gag at the sound of manifestation because of just how overused it was and the context that I took from it and my own belief and ideas about it so in today's episode, we're going to try to give you a little bit different look into what manifestation really is, and the science behind it and how to actually break through and create the life that you're desiring by changing a few ways that you may be thinking. Today we're going to share about the number one tip on how you [00:02:00] can start actually creating your dream life.
Karrie: I'm really excited for today because I was telling Dominique before we started recording, I feel like I'm going to be right there alongside the listeners learning from her because Dominique, this is a topic that she knows a lot more about than I do, especially the mechanics behind it. Of course, I've read, Instagram posts and different people talking about manifestation and how to bring to reality, those things that you want in life, which I have come to be more of a believer in that we have the control and the power to do this in our life, and a lot of it starts within our own mindsets.
Dominique: Yes, exactly. And I think we're all pretty familiar with the movie, The Secret. It came out in 2006. And that's actually when we started to hear about manifestation, and it gained traction in the mainstream. So it's been about [00:03:00] 30 years now that we've heard this be tossed around, and especially when it comes to goal setting, that's at least what I think about when I hear manifestation with your vision boards and your affirmations and your positive thinking, and that's all great. I mean, it's really powerful, all those practices, however, those things don't really make a difference or really matter that much until you realize a few important things about the process of manifesting. Today I want to share more of the Quantum Human Design lens, and I'm very much a science girl. As much as I love to feel my way through decisions, I have a lot of logic in my chart. So I want to see proof, statistics. I want to really read up about it and see the process through other people's lives and hear the process that other people [00:04:00] have taken. So we're going to really be getting into the science of all of this. But I think it's really important first to just acknowledge that it's okay if you're kind of initially rolling your eyes at the word manifestation. Like I said, I was somebody that did that as well. What helped me was to reframe the whole woo woo side of it and put it more into science terms and to realize that everything is energy. We're all made up of energy. We're surrounded by energy. And if we can be more intentional about the way we create energy within our lives and the way we use energy, then this is where the more science side comes into play for me. It was really helpful for me to look at it more about just being an energetic being. We all vibrate at a specific level of frequency, and the [00:05:00] life you're living right now is the sum total of every decision you have ever made. It's in the responses you have that create an emotional response and an emotional trigger in a way that is then creating your life. Everything that we are deciding on comes from an emotion that pushes us towards it. When I was talking about the energy that we have, we create energy through our emotions. Is it a good emotion? A bad emotion? Well, that's ultimately what is driving our decisions in creating the life that we're living currently right now and what we're actually desiring.
Karrie: What I'm hearing sounds like, I'm picturing when dominoes are lined up in a row and you knock one down and that creates the chain reaction of the rest of the dominoes one by one falling. That's the visualization I have to understand this better in my mind is this action or this [00:06:00] emotion or this energetic frequency that someone's at creates the next one and the next one and the next one. And so we ultimately have control over that within ourselves not within anyone else obviously. So if everyone could just gain that control and understand better that if we all just controlled ourselves and utilized this energy in a quote unquote positive way, whatever that means to you, it will just have a rippling effect because everything moving forward in your life will stem from that.
Dominique: Absolutely. And it's the difference between reaction or reactive creativity and deliberate creativity. That's what I love when we look at the Quantum Human Design side of things, the emotional solar plexus, if our emotions are driving our decisions, then we have to have greater awareness of our emotions and understand where they're coming from, where they're being triggered from. [00:07:00] And that most of the time is coming from the meanings that we carry. So this brings me into breaking down the process here. So let's take a look at what is actually driving your decisions and creating your life. And as I mentioned, this begins with the meanings that we hold, the stories and the beliefs that we have carried with us since childhood and are operating in the background because it's part of the subconscious mind. The majority of our days are being run off of our subconscious programming. How insane is that when you think about it? We're not even consciously aware of our behaviors and our actions. I think the statistics was less than 5 percent is within our conscious awareness and the rest is subconscious. So a lot of us are running on autopilot. We're running on autopilot based off of beliefs that were established in childhood. So one of [00:08:00] the easiest examples that I like to give is when we look at meanings and the beliefs and stories based off of them is taking a neutral idea, like money or family, I'm going to stick with money here because it's neutral until we put meaning to it. So does money equal struggle to you? Does money equal freedom? Does money equal impossible to attain? So when we look at these definitions, then this is where awareness is key for the process of changing our definitions, because if it's not a high vibrational emotion that it's creating, again, money. If you think struggle, then it's like hopelessness that might come up for you or failure, and that is not an emotion that's going to be matching what you're wanting to attract because like attracts like, the law of [00:09:00] energy here, and it's something where we really need to be able to gain greater awareness. And so when you think of a specific term in your mind, Karrie, what term comes up that you're maybe aware of that doesn't stimulate the best emotional response.
Karrie: Oh, money is mine for sure. I'm in the process of doing a lot of work around money and my feelings around money and my belief system around money and it's an ongoing process and it's not easy to change these beliefs but if you're intentional about it and the first step is realizing that you have some kind of wounding, or that might be too strong of a word, but some kind of reaction to these neutral topics and trying to figure out where did that come from? Is it true? Does this have to continue to be my story around this? It's a really interesting process when you step back from it and just look at it from this lens of, wow, we humans [00:10:00] make things so complicated.
Dominique: Absolutely. And I think money is definitely one that most of us can relate to and some other ones that come up, I have certainly said in the past, I have terrible luck in life, nothing ever goes right for me. Or maybe you're someone who is in the dating pool and you're telling yourself sometimes that you can't meet anyone because there's no good men or women out there. So when we look at our beliefs here and how it works when we're trying to attract into our lives, what happens is all of the potentials that are available to us in the quantum fields. We're swimming in all potentials, numerous potentials, unending potentials within the quantum field. You can call that the universe, source, but what we're desiring is already available to us. However, if we [00:11:00] don't feel we are worthy of it or of value to receive it, then we are blocking ourselves from seeing the possibilities. Another thing that I like to think of, the reticular activating system, which is a bundle of nerves on the brainstem, is part of our filter for what we're willing to accept and attract into our lives. Say, for example, you want a yellow bug and you're like, if I get a yellow VW bug, I'm going to be happy. I'm going to feel free because it's just going to make me feel full of joy. And that's your belief, and you're sticking to that when in reality, we only know what we know. We don't know what we don't know. So a lot of the times we don't realize that there is even more out there for us that could create even more happiness, but we are limiting ourselves because of the beliefs that we carry about what can make us happy, what is going to [00:12:00] fulfill our lives. So when we're out looking for what we want, the reticular activating system in our brain is filtering out only the things that are validating our beliefs and what are meaningful to us. So you could be glazing over all this other awesomeness out there and available to you, but because you're looking for this one thing, you're blinded by it and you're not seeing all the other potential and possibility. That's something where I've noticed how that worked out in my own life and what I changed with the manifestation process, not only meanings, but also not limiting myself, not believing that I know what's best. You get clear on what you want and you leave it open to all the possibilities. And we do so by asking questions, not by demanding. With manifestation, maybe you're familiar with this even, Karrie, where people say, I want this house and [00:13:00] I want this car and I want this job. And you do your vision board and you've got it up there and you are focused strictly on those pictures, those ideas. And again, it's that process of limiting your ability to receive what is actually correct and aligned for you. So if we ask questions, what would it be like to experience tremendous joy in my relationships? What would it be like to experience freedom in my career? So asking questions and dreaming and feeling the emotions that come with those questions is how we leave ourselves open to all the possibilities.
Karrie: That's really, really interesting. And when you were talking about luck and this belief that you have bad luck, I have a friend of mine in my life who is the complete opposite. And he's always just believed, he has really good luck and everything just works out for him and everything truly does. We even use his last [00:14:00] name and the word luck. I don't want to use his last name on here, but, we would say, like, Jones luck. Like, oh, we have Jones luck today because everything's working out. But it's like whatever happened in his childhood, most likely, he had some instance where something worked out for him, and so he just kept believing things would work out for him, and that just grew and grew and grew, and it sort of defined the way his whole life has gone.
Dominique: That's amazing. I love hearing stories like that. I know somebody who's very similar with their story and process and yeah, a lot of the times I believe that it certainly is how we are brought up. We had great modeling from our caregivers. Then of course there's the times where we're seeing caregivers struggle in different areas of life and that starts to stimulate our beliefs about different meanings. A lot of it too is working on your self worth and value, [00:15:00] knowing that you are worthy of everything that you desire because you exist, because you are here, because you are part of the whole. When you achieve the goals and desires that you're striving for, then the world benefits from it. If we're all energy and we're all building a higher vibration to really live in this place of love and value and acceptance for each other, we have to start to see our own worth. And this is where we also start to change the stories. Now I'm talking a lot here about the stories that we're creating and the meanings and beliefs. Stay tuned for next week because we're going to be sharing the actual breakdown of how you can actually start to change and rewrite your stories because this is absolute key when it comes to manifesting [00:16:00] and creating. I like to think of manifestation as creation. You are the creator of your life. You are a creator, period. You don't have to be an artist, a drawer, a painter. You are a creator, every single one of us. And in order to create a better life for ourselves, we need to change our meanings that are not aligned with our true value and worth. Because it's these meanings that allow us to pick good options that are available. So if I don't feel worthy enough for the love that I desire, then I'm going to sabotage myself in some way when I do come across someone that matches this goal that I have or my desire, because I'm not going to feel worthy to have it. That's why you can keep asking for what you want, but until you believe that you deserve it and you're capable of having it, then you will always be fighting for it and pushing [00:17:00] it away and sabotaging yourself. So really looking at meanings. This is where the number one step is in becoming aware of what meanings are coming up for you in the areas of life that you might be challenged with or struggling with currently.
Karrie: Hey there, friend. Have you signed up for the Awakened and Alive newsletter yet? If not, we want to invite you to get on the list so you don't miss out on the exciting new offerings we have planned for 2024.
Dominique: By receiving the weekly newsletter, you'll be the first to hear when new episodes drop along with updates on a very special project we've been working on for our amazing community.
Karrie: There's a really interesting piece of the Enneagram framework that relates to this whole idea. It goes by two different names. Sometimes it's referred to as the Hornevian Triads. Sometimes it's more commonly referred to [00:18:00] as our Stances. These three triadic groupings of the nine types show us how we approach getting our needs met. How do we get what we want out of life? And so it's interesting that the framework has broken down these three distinct ways that the types may differently go about this. So understanding this, if you know your Enneagram type, can really help you better see how maybe you're getting in your own way or aren't working with your energy, or maybe you're living in your Stance in a really productive way. So the three Stances are the Dependent or Compliant group, it goes by two different names, the Aggressive or Assertive group, and the Withdrawn group. Firstly, the Dependent Compliant group is Types 1, 2, and 6, and these three types tend to look outside of themselves when they're trying to get their own needs met. They naturally struggle with anxiety more because they tend to play the comparison game. They compare themselves to [00:19:00] others to assess where they stand so that they know if they're meeting society's expectations or their own expectations up to their standards. The Aggressive or Assertive group is made up of Types 3, 7, and 8. And these three types tend to focus just moving fast, far, pursuing what they want. They don't let anything get in their way or impede them. They rarely slow down enough to consider their own needs, emotional needs, and others emotional needs, so that can become a sticking point for them. These three types can more easily push their feelings aside when they want to accomplish something. Emotions just sort of get in their way and they tend to be really impulsive decision makers and action takers because they're just moving forward and thinking about the future. And then the last type, the Withdrawn group, are Types 4, 5, and 9. These three types tend to really look inside themselves to get their needs met. They are more private, introverted, internal processors. They [00:20:00] really need that time to think, to come to conclusions and to take action. So the other types outside of these three can see them as really slow moving and like what is taking you so long to get motivated or to get started. And these three types really feel demanded upon by others. They tend to pull away and are avoidant to obligations and expectations because of this. So I thought it was really interesting, looking at, which I've never looked at this triadic grouping through the lens of manifestation, but how understanding this piece of ourselves could really help us get into a clearer place of being able to create the life we want.
Dominique: Absolutely. That is fascinating and something that I just learned from you. As you were mentioning that last group, cause I'm a 9, wow. Yeah, that hits home, really pulling inward and I've had to kind of check myself a little bit at times [00:21:00] where I asked myself, why is it a little bit easier for me to really become more aware of what's happening internally with myself versus externally. Whereas I see that as the opposite with so many other people where they struggle to pull inwards and examine what is happening in their internal world. And that just makes so much sense to me and why understanding our conditioning and our behaviors through the lens of the Enneagram, why that is such a powerful tool, because yes, I can say, work on your self worth, see your value, but how do you do that when you have been feeling blocked for most of your life or sabotaging yourself in certain ways? I love that the Enneagram really helps to give more guidance on your unique path that you might be taking through this process of rewriting your stories and beliefs and getting [00:22:00] your own needs and wants met. That is beautiful. I absolutely love that. And of course, like we said before, why Human Design and the Enneagram complement each other so well. Now, if we take everything that we've talked about and you as a listener are like, okay, so where do I start? This is a lot of information. Great. But how can you start taking action on being the creator of your life and manifesting the life that you're desiring. The main point I pretty much was getting at was how the meanings we hold guide our decisions and ultimately are what is creating our life. So if we want to create a life that we're desiring, we have to redefine the meanings that we're holding to be more uplifting and empowering. Like we mentioned, next week we are going to go through the step by step process on how you can actually start to do that.
Karrie: I'm curious, you [00:23:00] mentioned at the beginning of the episode the number one thing that we have to keep in mind or remember. Have you gone over that yet?
Dominique: Ultimately, it's strengthening our self worth and value because that is ultimately what is going to be guiding our meanings. If we do not feel worthy of money, of love, then we are never going to be able to fully allow ourselves to attract that and to accept that into our lives. So, it's identifying those meanings and definitions and rewriting them to actually show the true worth you hold and value and living from that place. The subconscious mind likes repetition. This is not fake it till you make it. It's rewriting the story to really honor who you are, feeling into the emotions that come up. So it's like, when in your life do you remember [00:24:00] feeling worthy? Can you go back to that memory? What did it feel like? How do you know you were worthy at that point? And it's tapping into that emotion that it brought up and continually going to emotion that is similar anytime you have this story that I'm not good enough, I'm not lovable, I'm not worthy. So it's really about rewiring and reprogramming the subconscious mind through repetition.
Karrie: And I think, we mention this in many, many episodes and people probably are sick of hearing about it and are starting to roll their eyes because it's talked about so much, but another good way to tap into this or at least get in touch with yourself is through meditation or quiet time alone. Just that time to go internally. I read a really cool saying, and I wish I could remember who posted it or who originally said it, but I can't. Someone said something to the effect of meditation is the [00:25:00] time when you hang out with your soul.
Dominique: Wow, I love that. I'm so happy you brought up just the presence that comes with meditation because again, if we're looking at conscious versus subconscious mind, the only time we can be connected to the conscious is in the present moment. And this is where we can then decide, we can choose how we want to respond, how we want to create so it's deliberate, not reactive. We're so busy as human beings, every single one of us, so busy living in the past and dreaming of the future and getting sucked into all the what ifs and what could be with dreaming of the future. But in reality, if we don't start to become aware of how we're creating and what we're capable of creating, then that subconscious mind just keeps taking over. So presence, practicing being present. And again, through repetition. So [00:26:00] set an alarm to go off multiple times a day that alerts you to take a moment of silence, to meditate, or to just simply sit and be present in the moment, maybe through the five senses. What do you smell? What do you see? What do you hear? This is interrupting that cycle of just being on autopilot throughout our days. It's a tremendous practice.
Karrie: Another important thing that I think helps all of us become more in tune with our own life, and we've mentioned this one before as well, is cultivating that sense of gratitude for what you already have. Even if it's just the smallest little things, just shifting the mind to noticing sort of that glass half full, rather than half empty, is very powerful. So recognizing the little glimmers and things that you see each day that either bring you joy or that are supporting you in your life or even just [00:27:00] allowing your body to exist successfully on this planet, so clean air, having access to water, things like that, are huge things that come so easily to us, for those of us that live in countries where these things are really accessible, and we don't even notice them anymore.
Dominique: That's a huge one. That's one of my favorites as well, because if we can't be grateful for what we already have, then we can oftentimes get stuck in not being grateful for even the things that we end up achieving because there's never this enoughness that we reach. So if we can find how our lives are already enough, we are already enough, right now, through gratitude, through practicing presence, through the practice of gaining awareness on the meanings that you hold in your life, then this is where the ball starts to roll for us when we are looking at ourselves as being the creators of our lives. [00:28:00] Like anything, when we're practicing awareness and gratitude and presence, it's from a place of curiosity and compassion. Not a time to judge ourselves or to get sucked back into the past for all the mistakes we made. It's right now, the present, that we have in our control And this is where we get to decide how we want to be the creators of our lives moving forward
Karrie: Thank you for listening to this episode. Your support is so appreciated.
Dominique: If you'd like to have a question answered about your Human Design or Enneagram type in a future episode, you can submit it through the link in the show notes. We'd love to hear from you.
